This afternoon, room C really got into the Halloween spirit by carving pumpkins. After each table weighed, measured, and described their pumpkin, group members designed their jack-o-lantern using an iPad pumpkin carving application. Next, a parent volunteer helped each table carve the agreed upon design into their group's pumpkin.
Today, the local fire department visited Boyne City Elementary's kindergarten classrooms. This time, instead of hosing Mr. Sitkins clean of Jello, they taught us all about fire safety! We learned about the stop, drop, and roll technique and when to use it. We also received homework! The firefighters asked us all to check our smoke detectors and make an escape plan at our homes. Additionally, we got a chance to see Firefighter Sero in all of his gear. We learned that we shouldn't be scared if we see a firefighter in our home and that they are just there to help. Even if the gear makes them look different, they are just a regular person underneath! After their visit, we also received our own fire hats, badges, and fire safety booklets for home! Thank-you B.C.F.D.! Since students at Boyne City Elementary sold over 2,100 PTO raffle tickets, and surpassed their goal, Mr. Sitkins agreed to slide into a pool of Jello to thank them! Students made Jello at home, brought it into school, and had a blast watching their Principal slide into the slushy mess! Mr. Sitkins didn't go home sticky however, the local fire department hosed him down afterward!
Each week, students have the opportunity to earn eating lunch in room C with their teacher! It is a hard battle all week of earning stars for their table. Stars can be earned when an entire table is demonstrating star behavior when asked to complete a task. Right before lunch on Friday we count up all the teams' stars, and decide who has earned dining in room C for the day. Below are a few pictures of students who have enjoyed this time so far, and of course there will be many lunch dates to come! So, keep on earning those stars!
Today, the class of 2024 experienced the first Spirit Day of their careers at Boyne City Public Schools. The day was complete with dressing in red and blue, a visit from the high school football and volleyball players, and the homecoming parade! Check out our photos from this memorable day below!
