Last Wednesday, we had a visitor come to our classroom from the Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians. She read us a Native American legend about owls, and we learned that in the Odawa culture these animals are considered bad luck . After, we were able to make our own legend scrolls to retell the story using symbols, just like Native Americans may have used in the past! We had a lot of fun!
Last Monday we were lucky enough to have some first grade visitors come to our classroom! Many of these visitors were actually room C alumni! It was so fun to have them back for a short visit. Senora Fritzsche brought her class to read us a Spanish version of Eric Carle's "Brown Bear, Brown Bear". We really enjoyed the story, and can't wait until our chance to read it next year!
This past Friday was R.I.F. day for students at Boyne City Elementary. R.I.F. stands for Reading is Fundamental! After receiving a brand new book in the morning, we were able to experience a really cool Assembly that helped us express how much we love our school through Music! We also sang about bullies, reading, and our teachers! We had a lot of fun watching the presenter change into different rock and roll stars! Check out our pictures from this fun day below!
Last week, we began a mini study on bones by reading books on skeletons. We then made our own paper skeleton models. Today, we took it one step farther and were visited by Dr. Wendling and Mr. Boney (her medical model of a human skeleton). We learned all about our bones and even were able to watch as a student in our classroom got a cast. We felt the cast, looked at models of bones, as well as x-rays of bones. Thanks Dr. Wendling, we had lots of fun!
